Aerospace - RESCU 406 AF ELT Beacon
Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) have been standard aircraft equipment for many decades and pre-date satellite tracking. Early versions of ELTs operated at a frequency of 121.5 MHz and later 243 MHz. However, when much electronic equipment started operating at the same frequency, there was a large increase in the level of false alerts. As a result, a new ELT technology emerged using digital signals operating at a frequency of 406 MHz. The 406 MHz system was either made mandatory or recommended by regulatory bodies for commercial aircraft as of January 1, 2002.
INSTRUMAR and Honeywell Aerospace are partners in the development of an Automatic Fixed Emergency Locator Transmitter. This new ELT is based on the technology resident in Honeywell's RESCU 406 Emergency Locator Transmitter (Survival Type).
